Etna and the Gorges of Alcantara
With its 3,350 meters, Etna is the highest volcano in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the ever-expanding eruptive activity that has created a majestic, variegated shape and for the extraordinary ecosystems that it supports, giving enchanting and unique landscapes in the world.
Depending on your preferences, you can choose different types of excursions that depart conveniently from the campsite to reach the Rifugio Sapienza, the Silvestri craters, the Bove valley, lava slides grottas with helmets and torches and tastings of typical products. Excursions last half a day or the whole day and always provide a multilingual guide, essential to discover the secrets and history of the volcano, immersed in unspoiled nature.
Etna also offers several trekking trails among ancient craters and breathtaking landscapes, as well as excursions by ATV or bicycle.
The Gorges of the Alcantara River are a spectacular canyon formed following the erosion of ancient basalt columns that you can visit also by an exciting canyoning path with all the necessary equipment.
If you wish to visit the volcano yourself, you can go by bus (at 8:15 am at the central station, direction Nicolosi-Etna south and return to Catania at 4:30 pm) or car (you can easily rent one at the campsite) to reach the Sapienza hut, from which the Etna cableway departs and some trekking trails start.
Many points of interest can also be visited by car.
